  • YOUR CASE

The aged, some might say decrepit, stage hand, Seymour Ackts, has discovered beneath an unused trapdoor on the Nottingham Playhouse stage a somewhat vague letter from the well known Victorian actress Annette Curtan to her betrothed, Arthur Pint. It seems to pinpoint the possible whereabouts of a long-lost mayoral chain of office, said to be worth 5,000 guineas. But can you find it? By solving the clues, you will be able to locate his chain.

    Nottingham Arboretum and City

Nottingham has a vibrant city centre, and is known as the Queen of the Midlands. It is constantly evolving, mixing superb architecture from a range of eras. It is also one of the few cities to have regained its tram system. Watson Fothergill was a prolific architect in Nottingham city. Look for red brick, castellations, balustrades and tall chimneys that he used in profusion as you walk around.
The trail begins outside the renowned The Nottingham Playhouse. It will take you through the Grade II listed Arboretum, by several buildings of fascinating architecture, past the Royal Centre and famous Theatre Royal, through the city centre, then finally to your destination, just a stone's throw from the start.
If you get tired, there are cafes and benches galore for you to take your ease and spend a few minutes people watching.

The trail is approximately 2 miles long and should take about 2 hours to complete. It is suitable for both pushchairs and wheelchairs, though some areas are quite hilly. This trail is restricted by the Arboretum Opening hours, which are generally winter 9am-4.30pm and summer 9am-9pm. Please note that it can be very expensive to park in the city - why not make use of the park and ride, or even arrive by train? The really adventurous among you could pick up a tram on the outskirts and be whisked in modern comfort to the heart of this great lady of a city.
