  • YOUR CASE

In the land of Northumbria where the black rocks stand guard, Noggin Dennog, son of Knut, buried his treasure on an island of legends. Norse researcher Nogbad Debbad has unearthed carved stone runes in the dunes of Lindisfarne. The runes tell the legend of the men of the Northlands who made a map with the location of the fabled hoard. Many false clues were added to deter raiders. Create your own saga as you seek the treasure.

    Lindisfarne

This Trail starts in the large car park as you arrive on the island and finishes by the castle. The distance is one and a half miles. Most of the route is suitable for a pushchair apart from one short stretch. The island of Lindisfarne leaves a lasting impression on all visitors as it is such a unique place. It is often called Holy Island as it is known as the birthplace of English Christianity. You will walk in the footsteps of saints and invaders as you search for your treasure here. The quest for riches here brought the first Viking raiders to our shores in ancient times.
Many peaceful visitors come to the island and for some it is a place of pilgrimage. Lindisfarne has a national reputation as a wildlife haven and is home to a national nature reserve. You may be lucky enough to see a grey seal as well as a variety of rare birds.
The island is cut off twice a day by the tide. Please be aware of the crossing times and try to avoid becoming so absorbed in your treasure hunt that you become stranded on the island! You can check the crossing times at the causeway and also on www.lindisfarne.org.uk

The route is suitable for pushchairs but would be difficult for wheelchairs.
