For many years the smokehouses of the region would compete to produce the tastiest kipper and so win the fabulous prize, the legendary Golden Kipper. Strangely the trophy disappeared one year and there has been no trace until old Mac Rhell confessed on his death bed that he had hidden it on an island and had left clues to its whereabouts around Seahouses. The map that was found under his bed could lead you to the treasure.
Seahouses
Seahouses is a very popular destination for visitors who arrive for boat trips, walking or just fish and chips. The route of the Trail starts at the Tourist Information Centre (post code NE68 7SW) and takes you along a quiet walk before returning to the busier parts. There is a section of footpath at the end of the carpark which can be muddy for the first 20 metres. If this section is dry the Trail will be suitable for wheelchair use. The Trail is about 2.25 miles in length.
