  • YOUR CASE

News has just come in of a heinous crime on the banks of the River Esk in Whitby. The body of kipper curer Kip Kildare was found hidden at the back of his smokehouse. The motive is clear - his entire stock of smoked kippers has vanished leaving the townsfolk both shocked and kipperless. Can you solve the clues to find the culprit and the weapon used to carry out this deadly crime and return the stolen kippers to the town?

    Whitby Eastside & Abbey

Situated at the mouth of the River Esk, Whitby spreads steeply up both sides of the river valley as it meets the sea. It is famed for its links with Bram Stoker's Dracula and as the place where Captain Cook trained as a seaman. This Trail explores the older East side of the town which is dominated by St Mary's Church and the dramatic ruins of Whitby Abbey, accessed via 199 steps. At the foot of the cliff, along the narrow cobbled streets, you will find cottages dating back to the 1600's as well as a bustling market square and a wide variety of small shops selling local wares such as kippers and jet.
