  • YOUR CASE

An island off the east coast of England, long since subsumed by rising sea levels, may hold the key to the whereabouts of the ill gotten gains of the famous pirate Long John Mehearty. A treasure map has been discovered with clues that could identify its precise location. Can you solve these clues and reveal the location of Mehearty's precious treasure?

    Winterton-on-Sea

Winterton-on-Sea is one of those traditional, unspoilt, Norfolk coastal villages. With no arcades or funfairs but just miles of sandy beaches it really is a place to visit and take in the views (and the fresh air!). The dunes are within the area designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and are home to a wide variety of wildlife (including the Adder!). The village has also been winner on many occasions in the annual 'In Bloom' competition.

This is a walking Trail in the Treasure Hunt format and is a PICTURE CLUE only Trail. It is approximately 1.7 miles long and you should allow between 1.5 and 2 hours to complete it. Whilst the Trail is generally level throughout there is a lengthy section at the end that crosses the dunes. Whilst these dunes are covered in vegetation it is still, unfortunately, considered to be an unsuitable Trail for wheelchair users.

The Trail starts at the Beach car park (NR29 4AJ). This is a 'pay-on-entry' car park with all donations supporting the Coastwatch Station. Please take note of the car park closing times on entry! There are public toilets at this location.
