  • YOUR CASE

Local residents were shocked and saddened to learn of the untimely demise of local fisherman, and self styled member of the gentry, Earl E Bird. Foul play is suspected, especially since it has been revealed that Mr Bird had rather a murky past connected with smuggling, and there are many suspects for the murder. Can you solve the mystery? If you can, you could win a prize!

    Wells-next-the-Sea

Using the towns full name, Wells-Next-The-Sea, can be misleading as it is located approximately one mile from open water (though thankfully it is easily accessible by road being situated on the A149 Norfolk Coast road, midway between Hunstanton to the west and Cromer to the East).

The picturesque quayside and waterfront remains the only commercially viable port along the North Norfolk coast with whelk and shrimp boats berthed in the small harbour and stalls on the quayside selling locally caught mussels, dressed crabs, cockles and samphire.

Famous residents have included Thomas Bolton, the husband of Lord Nelson's eldest sister Susanna, and who later inherited the seafaring hero's Earldom and John Fryer who joined HMS Bounty serving under the infamous Lieutenant Bligh. More recently, Wells has been made famous by the ITV drama Kingdom where it makes up one half of the fictitious town of Market Shipborough (the other half being Swaffham).

This is a Murder Mystery Walking Trail and, whilst there is a gentle hill during the Trail, it is considered suitable for both pushchairs and wheelchairs. However, caution should be exercised on the sections of the trail where there are no pavements. The trail is just under 2 miles long and should take approximately 2 hours to complete. The most suitable pay and display car parking can be found at Stearmans Yard, off Freeman Street (NR23 1BQ).
