  • YOUR MISSION

The notorious eco-warrior, Dr Grunmacht, disappointed that his plans to ban all powered boats from the Norfolk Broads have been thwarted, has decided to sabotage the fuel storage tanks instead. Devices have been planted at a number of sites, all controlled by a single control code which, unless de-activated, will cause widespread damage to the Broads. Can you solve the clues, identify the code, and so thwart Grunmacht's evil plan?

    Stalham

Stalham is situated along what was thought to be the route of an old Roman road, and is effectively split in two by the A149. On one side of the road you will find a traditional market town (market day is Tuesday) whilst on the other you will The Broads and a busy staithe. Many of the buildings along the High Street date back to the 18th century (with the church dating back further to 1340) whilst in the staithe area the buildings are more 19th century. 100-200 years ago the staithe would have been a hive of activity with traditional Broads cargo boats (known as wherries) transporting goods such as corn and coal between Stalham and Great Yarmouth. These days the staithe is home to a number of holiday boat yards and private cruisers.

This is a walking Trail in the spy format. It is 1.5 miles long and you should allow approximately an hour and a half to complete it. The ground underfoot is good, and level, throughout and so is assessed as suitable for both pushchairs and wheelchairs. The Trail does, however, cross the busy A149. Particular attention should be taken of the advice given in the Trail at this section.

The Trail starts and finishes in the car park of Tesco Superstore, off Old Market Road, (NR12 9AE) where up to 3 hours free car parking (controlled by automatic number plate reading CCTV!) should be available.
