  • YOUR CASE

Over 30 years ago, during archaeological excavations of the castle grounds, a time capsule dating back over 100 years was uncovered. This was reburied on a little known island off the Norfolk coast (and only visible at low tide) for safe keeping. Its precise location on the island has long been forgotten - thankfully there are a number of clues which, if solved correctly, will reveal precisely where the time capsule is! Can you solve the clues and reveal the hidden location?

    Norwich Castle

In the 11th Century, Norwich was the second largest city in England (after London) and regarded as one of the most important places in the Kingdom. Norwich castle was founded soon after the Norman Conquest and, according to the Domesday Book, 98 Saxon homes were demolished to make way for it!

The castle is open to the public all year round (admission charges apply and entry times vary depending on the time of year). Some of the exhibits from the Royal Norfolk Regiment Museum (now sadly closed) are being moved into the castle itself.

This is a 'picture clue only' Trail, in the Treasure Hunt format, set around the area of Norwich Castle. It is well suited for children (although, being set in the city centre, the roads can be heavy with traffic). The Trail is approximately 1 mile long and you should allow at least 1 hour to complete it. The ground is good underfoot throughout and is generally level. There are alternate directions given for wheelchair users and/or pushchair users.

Car parking (charges apply) is available at many locations throughout the city (although free [legal] parking still eludes me!). The nearest car park to the Trail start point is the Castle Mall car park (NR1 3JQ)
