  • YOUR CASE

Local fisherman, Davish Arniblin, has reeled in a rare old catch from the River Wensum - a treasure map in a bottle! The map shows what appears to be a previously unknown island off the coast of Norfolk. The clues with the map lead to where treasure may be hidden - can you help Davish solve the clues and identify the location of the hidden treasure?

    Fakenham

Fakenham is a traditional Norfolk market town located in the heart of the County. A market is held in the town centre every Thursday with an additional Farmers Market taking place on the 4th Saturday of each month. Historically, Fakenham was a centre for the printing industry and is now home to the only surviving town gasworks in England and Wales. Whilst gas-from-coal production ceased in 1965 the gas works is still complete with all the equipment necessary for the manufacture of gas. Fakenham boasts a national hunt race course and, less than a mile from the town centre, you can find the Pensthorpe Nature Reserve and Gardens, home to the BBC wildlife programme "Springwatch".

The trail is in the Treasure Hunt format. It is approximately 2 miles long and you should allow at least 2 hours to complete it. The terrain is generally level throughout and, apart from one small section of gravelled pathway, is good underfoot. There is one stepped section but alternative directions are provided if required. The trail is suitable for both pushchair and wheelchair users. Free parking can be found at the Millers Walk Shopping Precinct (car parks off both sides of White Horse Street) except on Thursdays. Please note this car park is locked at 8.30pm each night. There are numerous pay and display car parks throughout the town, including at the trail start point in Queen's Road (NR21 8WX).
