YOUR CASE
There is excitement in the town after a local fisherman "hooked" a treasure map, hidden in a bottle, out of The Mere. The map shows where some priceless treasure may be hidden. But in order to find it a number of clues have to be solved. Can you correctly solve the clues and so be in with a chance of winning a prize?
Diss
The six acre 'mere' in the centre of the town remains the focal point of life in Diss. However, if you are hoping to find a plethora of fast food and a similar fast lifestyle you will be sadly disappointed - Diss was selected as one of the UK pilot towns to trial the Italian 'Cittaslow' concept where a high quality of life in a relaxed environment, whilst promoting good food, is the priority. This alone makes it a wonderful town to visit. Having been granted its market charter in the 12th Century by Richard the Lionheart the town continues to hold a number of markets - each Friday the High Street is closed off to traffic and is taken over by traders of all descriptions. Each second Saturday brings the local farmers' market whilst the first and third Saturdays are set aside for a 'flea' market.
This is a walking trail in the Treasure Hunt format. It is 1.2 miles long and you should allow 1.5 hours to complete it. The trail starts outside the Town Museum at the top end of the Market Place. There are numerous pay and display car parks situated around the town centre, including the Mount Street Car Park (IP22 4WG) and the Shelfanger Road Car Park (IP22 4EN). The terrain is generally good underfoot (although there is one section that crosses over grass) and there are a number of gentle inclines throughout the trail. The trail is considered suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs.
