YOUR CASE
Rothley was shocked to find the body of local historian, Luke Indepast, on the Town Green. It was known that he was working on old parchments which may have located treasures, brought back from the crusades by Sir Loyd de Banque of The Rothley Temple. It was also known that there was jealousy within the local history group. Had he unearthed the wrong can of worms? Can you solve the mystery of the dead historian?
Rothley
This Trail is one and a half miles in length and should take you between one and a half to two hours to complete. Rothley is a bustling, thriving village on the edge of the Charnwood Forest. Yet it is also a village full of quiet places, hidden corners and fascinating history. It was a home to the Knights Templar from 1231 and much still remains of the original chapel and other Temple buildings at the Rothley Court Hotel. In the churchyard is one of only two surviving Saxon crosses in the East Midlands, dating back to the 9th century, and also the intriguing Hunt headstone depicting the Day of Judgement. The village also has more old cruck cottages than anywhere else in Leicestershire and a wall named The Dutchmans! Add to this a fascinating range of shops, welcoming inns and eateries and the Rothley Murder Mystery Trail becomes a must!
