YOUR MISSION
One of our agents, Jim Pond, has discovered that the evil genius, Dr Madden-Badd, is planning to blow up the Butter Market to destabilise Mountsorrel's growing tourist trade. Unfortunately Pond was eliminated before he could tell us the code to stop the bomb, but he did leave a trail of clues around the village in case he was neutralised. We need you – our best agent – to help us retrieve this code and save the day!!
Mountsorrel
Mountsorrel presents a fascinating picture of a village full of both rural and industrial history, with a rich blend of old and not so old still to be seen. It lies between the steep granite hills linked to Charnwood to the west and the River Soar Navigation to the east, which carried coal from Derbyshire to Leicester. Castle Hill, now the site of the imposing War Memorial overlooking the village, once boasted a Norman castle, branded as 'a nest of the Devil and a den of thieves and robbers', before it was destroyed in 1217. Below it lies the large attractive Village Green, where the Trail begins, and the Butter Market, Mountsorrel's most famous landmark. This one mile Trail takes you along pavements, up and down a hill and on unmade paths which can be muddy at times. Comfortable shoes are advisable. The Trail should take about an hour and a half.
While most of the Trail is on level pavements, there is a significant hill to climb, the last part of which may be muddy. Stout shoes are recommended for this walk. It is suitable for pushchairs.
