Treasure Hunters Found Gold in Visit Devon Tourism Awards

01/10/2010

Treasure Trails is thrilled to have won the Gold Award for the Best Tourism Experience and Activity in the inaugural 2010 Visit Devon Tourism Awards.  We were pitched against hundreds of other attractions and activity providers throughout Devon, and are delighted to have won this award amongst some very stiff competition. The winners were announced on Thursday evening at a glittering awards ceremony at the Thurlestone Hotel in Kingsbridge, hosted by BBC Radio Devon’s Judi Spiers.

Visit Devon Tourism Awards

Sandy & Rod Tilke, managers of Treasure Trails Devon, said, “We are absolutely thrilled to receive the Gold Award in these prestigious Tourism Awards, which recognises the very best within the Tourism Industry. We are extremely proud to achieve such recognition, especially as our trailers are always telling us what a great time they have exploring Devon with our Treasure Trails."

BBC Radio Devon presenter Judi Spiers who hosted the awards evening commented that the event had proved to be a great success in showcasing the best of Devon’s tourism industry; “Devon is famous for the warm welcome it gives to its visitors, but this event demonstrates that Devon also has an innovative tourism industry which is constantly striving for excellence in what is a very competitive and challenging market. It is wonderful to see so many businesses taking part in the Devon Awards and proving that the county is very much a leading player in UK tourism.”

Ensuring that our customers receive the very best possible experience that Treasure Trails can offer is paramount to our core business ethos. Sandy says that, “This is proven time and time again by the glowing feedback that we regularly receive from our customers, many of whom come back to us to repeat this experience or spread the word to family and friends.”

“Our growing army of Treasure Trails fans is spreading at an incredible rate and is doubling year on year, with an estimated 20,000+ people out trailing in Devon all year round.  To see such an increase in trailers is fantastic, especially during an uncertain economic climate and with recent unpredictable weather. In fact, we believe that both these negative elements have contributed to our increasing popularity as our trailers take advantage of what we call the “Daycation” effect – enjoying fun days out with family and friends that don’t cost the earth.”

As everyone knows, activities to keep all ages entertained can be a challenge and getting them to do something in the outdoors that is healthy and educational at the same time sounds too good to be true!

For just £5 a Treasure Trail will engage the whole family in solving an intriguing mystery whilst learning a multitude of fascinating, historical and unusual things about the area at the same time. An easy to follow route leads them to the most beautiful and interesting places in the area and answers to the clues are located on existing monuments and buildings.

Devon Tourism AwardsRachel Brown and her family from Exeter recently completed the new Exeter City Wall Spy Mission Walking Trail and said ‘What a great idea! We saw so much more of the city than if we had just wandered around aimlessly. It was a great (and cheap!) way to get the whole family to visit somewhere new and have fun whilst learning a bit of history.’
