  • YOUR CASE

The assembly at the Pendle School of Witchraft was spellbound when it was announced that Miss Sabrina, the enchanting Head of Spelling, had been found murdered in the broom cupboard. But which witch wished this wicked wish? Clues to the murder have been scattered like stardust around the Pendle hills. Solve the crime and you may win a prize!

    Pendle Witches

On this Trail you must find the answers to clues spread around the villages of Pendle which will help you to solve the murder of the charming Head of Spelling at the Pendle School of Witchcraft. You may win a cash prize if you submit the correct answer to the puzzle!

This Trail explores the picturesque villages in the shadow of Pendle Hill which are steeped in history and full of dark tales of witches and witchcraft. The Trail starts at the Pendle Heritage Centre at Barrowford and tours the Pendle area via Roughlee, Downham, Newchurch and Barley. Along the way you will see stunning countryside, historic churches, lovely villages and witches galore, all in an area of outstanding natural beauty. And, for the men at least (I can’t vouch for the ladies), possibly the most interesting public conveniences in the country!

The entire Trail is a combined game of seeking treasure hunt clues and solving the puzzle, and we've included some that are suitable for children as well as some more challenging ones for adults.

This is a driving and walking trail which will take about 2.5 hours with 18 miles of driving and 1.5 miles of walking. There are a number of steps and footpaths and hence it is not suitable for wheelchairs but should be suitable for light pushchairs.
