YOUR CASE
Whilst dusting the antique Gillow writing desk handed down through the generations from her ancestor, a notorious captain of the Caribbean, Mrs Jackie Sparrow triggered a secret drawer that revealed a treasure map that had remained hidden for over 250 years. Clues to locate the treasure are scattered around Lancaster like pieces of eight. Solve the clues to find the location of the treasure and you might win a cash prize!
Lancaster
Lancaster is a vibrant university town, brimming with history and rich in outstanding architecture.
In the 18th Century Lancaster was one of the major ports trading with the West Indies and Africa as part of the Atlantic Triangular Trade. This was the city’s Golden Age and echoes of its Georgian heyday as a major port remain along the historic St George’s Quay, whose Customs House is now home to the Lancaster Maritime Museum, and in the splendid town houses around the city.
This Trail explores the historic city of Lancaster and links together all its major attractions including the Castle, City Museum, Maritime Museum and the Judges Lodgings, not to mention its fine array of pubs, restaurants and cafes and independent shops. So why not make a full day of your visit to Lancaster and combine the Trail with a visit to some of the city’s many other attractions? You can easily rejoin the route after your quest for knowledge, food or drink has been sated!
This is a walking Trail of 2.25 miles which should take about 1.5 hours. It is entirely on pavements around the city and is therefore suitable for pushchairs and should be okay for wheelchair users although there are a couple of sections that are quite steep and a couple of cobbled sections.
