Secret Spy Mission Trail
Ampthill's Foggy Fiasco - A Race Against Time!
Attention all Agents! The picturesque town of Ampthill is in grave danger. The annual 'Scenic views in Bedfordshire' competition is just around the corner and we have received intel that the mayor of the neighbouring town, Notton Yurnelly, has a sinister plan to sabotage Ampthill's chances of winning.
The mayor, Theresa Mist, has set up a fog-making machine in the valley that will create a thick blanket of fog, obstructing the judges' view and causing Ampthill to lose. But fear not, for we have intercepted her band of aides and discovered that they have scattered Clues to the deactivation code of the machine while they were casing Ampthill.
We urgently need the help of TOP Agents (that's YOU!) to decipher the clues, crack the code, and save the day before it's too late. The future of Ampthill rests in your hands. Good luck!

Navigating The Route
This is a circular spy mission through Ampthill’s attractive town centre, woodland footpaths and open countryside, with agents weaving between pavements, parkland paths and grassy tracks as they work to stop Theresa Mist’s foggy sabotage.
The route includes woodland paths, open grassy terrain and some uneven ground, so it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Important: Sections of the mission involve crossing roads and walking alongside them, and paths (especially through woodland and fields) can become muddy or slippery after wet weather, so agents should take care underfoot, stay alert near traffic and keep younger operatives under close supervision at all times.
Getting There
Time to deploy your agents and begin the mission:
By car: Ampthill Great Park Central Car Park (near the Football Club), Woburn Street (MK45 2HX closest) - Your undercover base and official mission starting point.
By public transport: Ampthill is served by local bus routes connecting to nearby towns such as Bedford and Flitwick. From the town centre, it’s a short walk to the start point in Ampthill Great Park.
Need the Loo?
Even elite agents need a quick comfort break! Public toilets can be found to the right of Church Street before Clue 14.
Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged agents are welcome on this mission 🐾 Ampthill Common is great for tracker dogs, but they are not allowed in the children’s play area, so you’ll need to take a short diversion around it when passing through.
Food & Drink Stops
Agents, plan your refuelling carefully! There are a couple of refreshment options at the start and within the town, plus a supermarket around Clue 14 for stocking up on supplies.
For a proper break, pack a picnic to enjoy after Clue 15, where you’ll find a great spot to pause and debrief mid-mission.

Historic Routes & Hidden Landmarks
From the Alameda’s tree-lined avenue to historic town streets, this mission threads through layers of local history that reward a closer look.
Crosses, Memorials & Treasure Lore
Up on the hill, the Two Crosses and Katherine’s Cross add a dramatic twist - and even link to the famous ‘Masquerade’ treasure hunt story, giving this mission a real sense of hidden history.
