  • YOUR CASE

A long time ago, a young farmer who wanted to see the world, set off for foreign lands. After many years of wandering he came across a map which he believed was for somewhere in the vicinity of the triangle between Weobley, Pembridge and Eardisland and would lead to buried treasure! Solve the clues to follow in the young farmer’s footsteps to find the place he found all those years ago!

    Weobley and more!

The first village visited in the Weobley Trail is Eardisland. Eardisland is about 6 miles due west of Leominster. It grew around a castle which has long since vanished although the great moated mound where the castle once stood can still be seen. The castle was built to guard the road between England and Wales where it crosses the River Arrow. The Trail moves onto Pembridge which is about 3 miles due west of Eardisland and, like Eardisland, is also on the River Arrow. After Pembridge comes Weobley which is about 10 miles south-west of Leominster and is just under 6 miles due south of Pembridge. In 2008 Weobley (pronounced Webbley) appeared in the top fifty of the Times Newspaper’s best places to live in England. On the borders of Wales, Weobley is one of the best-preserved Tudor villages in the country, with many beautiful timber framed buildings, some dating back to the 1400s. In Weobley many aspects of 1500 years of British history are represented. From its Saxon origins, through the Norman Conquest to the medieval period, the Civil War, and the agricultural revolution. Here you will discover the remains of an 11th Century castle, a 12th Century Church and many houses from the 14th Century onwards. All three villages are surrounded by beautiful countryside.

This is a Treasure Hunt Trail around a fictitious island. There are three villages to look around and each one has a free visitors car park which is clearly signposted. The Trail starts at Eardisland, which is just off the A44 between Leominster and Kington. Having answered a few clues there, it moves to Pembridge and after a fairly short walk around Pembridge, the final stop is Weobley which has a wealth of inns, cafes and tearooms for visitors. Unfortunately the Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs - however it is suitable for light pushchairs.

The Trail can be walked from start to finish or you can drive or cycle from one village to the next. The Trail will take you approximately 2 and a half hours assuming you don't divert into the many shops and cafes along the route! There is about 1 and a half miles of walking as part of it and 8 miles of driving or cycling.
