YOUR CASE
There was once a pirate called Jack Wellnotgood who spent his life in tropical seas raiding the boats that carried gold and treasure from one island to another. Legend has it that he originally came from the Golden Valley and that is where he buried his haul of treasure!
Follow the clues to find Jack's secret location!
Golden Valley
Herefordshire's Golden Valley is situated towards the west of the county and close to the border with Wales. The starting point is the village of Madley. Madley is said to be built on an old ant hill and the remains of a circus elephant are said to be buried under land near the original point of the village cross - it died when a circus was in town! The Trail then travels north up the Golden Valley, stopping in Peterchurch to pick up some clues and then stopping in Dorstone to collect more clues, before finishing at the top of the hill where Arthur's stone is located. Arthur's stone is a Neolithic chambered tomb dating from 3,700 BC - 2,700 BC and is situated on the ridge line of a hill overlooking both the Golden Valley and the Wye Valley. It is well worth a visit.
This is a Treasure Map driving Trail which starts in Madley and travels through Herefordshire's Golden Valley up to Arthur's stone near Dorstone. Madley is situated on the B4352 and approximately 5 miles as the crow flies to the west of Hereford City. Take a picnic or plan to have a meal or a drink in Hay-on-Wye at the end of the Trail. There is also a pub in Dorstone which could be a good place to eat or drink at the end of the Trail. The entire Trail covers around 12 miles of driving and 1.5 miles of walking and will take just under 2 hours to complete.
Finally don't forget to pop into Hopes of Longton or Hopes of Poston to find all sorts of local goodies from picnic stuff to souveniers!
