TREASURE TRAILS IN THE NEWS

'This is a fun and (don't tell the children) educational activity as the trail took us all round Dartmouth and we learnt a lot about its fascinating history along the way.'

Trinity Primary School chooses Treasure Trails

21/06/2011

Trinity Primary School in Hereford has chosen Treasure Trails to partner with to deliver something different for this year's school trip to the centre of the city. Traditionally the pupils of Year 3 have a coach trip into Hereford and then a guided tour around the cathedral and a visit to the Mappa Mundi exhibition. This year, alongside both the traditional activities, pupils will also be solving a murder mystery, written especially for them.  The mystery is entitled 'The unusual case of the Murdered Musician'.

Hundreds of years ago, a musician's body was found in the river near the old bridge. The musician had connections with the local school and the cathedral. The police suspected foul play but despite all their investigations neither suspect nor weapon was found.  Recently an old booklet was discovered in the Chained Library giving new clues to the case. These have been printed for you to help solve the mystery of the murdered musician.

The challenge for David and Amanda was to work out a way to get 30 children around the route without them all following along behind each other. Their solution was to write a Trail that is in a figure of 8 with the cathedral at the centre and so four different groups can go off in the four different directions - genius!

Kate, one of the assistant teachers at the school tested the Trail to ensure it was right for the year group and she commented 'Me and my son did the trail last week. we really enjoyed it. We couldn't find any problems with it at all. We will try to make sure each group leader has done it before the day so they have a clear idea of where they are going and so they can concentrate on the trail and the children'.

If you think something like this would work for the school you are associated with, please do get in touch.
