  • YOUR CASE

There's a buzz around Winchester. The local celebrity archaologist Barry D. Hatchett was found under a pile of rubble at one of his dig sites this week and foul play is suspected! The rumour is that he was about to announce an important discovery that would put a local property development back several years. There is a long list of suspects, can you work out who is the guilty one amongst them?

    Winchester City

Winchester, once the capital of England in Saxon times is steeped in History. Over the centuries, Kings have been born, lived, married and buried here (including King Canute and Alfred the Great).

It was where the Domesday Book was compiled and even where Sir Walter Raliegh was tried for treason!

With so much history, it's no surprise that Winchester is a fantastic place to visit today.

This Trail focuses on the City itself, which dates back to Saxon and Norman times. It takes you through the High Street and back streets, picking out some fascinating facts from Winchester's ancient and recent history.

There are many places to stop and visit. or even just to sit and take lunch.

If it's open, make sure to stop off at the Great Hall; the Round Table, museum, gardens and family tree are amazing - and it's free!

As with the Cathedral Trail, this is just over one and a half miles long and we've ensured that it's wheelchair and pushchair friendly. There are a few slopes along the Trail but nothing too severe.
