  • YOUR CASE

Basingstoke is famous for its canal. It was used during both world wars for transporting goods from ports on the south coast of England to London. During these times a barge of German gold went missing in Basingstoke. Modern buildings now stand on the old canal but its waters still run under the town. A map has just been discovered by a local historian in the old museum! Can you find the location and maybe win a cash prize?

    Basingstoke

Basingstoke was mentioned in the Domesday book as a market town. It was expanded in the 1960's and has some very modern architecture from recent times.

This trail will lead you to some interesting old parts of the town, which you may have never seen and around to the impressive new parts.

On the way, you'll discover a canal, learn about Thomas Burberry and John Arlott and other surprises that you may not expect in Basingstoke.

Find out more about visiting Basingstoke at www.DestinationBasingstoke.co.uk. Click on the link on the left.

This trail does not leave the pavements of the town and so is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. It should take around 2 hours to complete.
