  • YOUR MISSION

Rival museum owner Doctor Terry Dactile has invented a machine to shrink all the dinosaurs in the Natural History Museum. Once they are pocket-sized he plans to sneak them back to his own museum where he will charge for admission. Can you stop Dr Dactile's terrible plot? Follow the Trail and solve the clues to work out the code we need to disable his machine and keep the dinosaurs where they belong.

    South Kensington

In 1851 London's Great Exhibition took place in an enormous Crystal Palace on what is now Hyde Park. The Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations raised so much money that the Queen and Prince Albert commissioned the Victoria and Albert (V & A), Natural History and Science Museum be built in the area south of the parks then nicknamed 'Albertopolis'.

On this Trail you can enjoy the majesty of the museum buildings, visit one of South Kensington's prettiest mews streets, and stroll across both Hyde Park (to the Serpentine) and Kensington Gardens (to the Albert Memorial). You are guaranteed to get a sense of the scale of and pride in London's industrial prowess at that time. It's also impossible not to be awed by the immense admiration, love and respect in which the Queen held her consort, which is evident when you visit the Royal Albert Hall and the ornate memorial opposite it.

The parks are wonderful for picnics and games at any time - however there are cafes en route and at the start and end of the Trail. There are free public conveniences at the Serpentine (by the Lido Cafe).

On summer days, you may like to paddle in the Diana Memorial Fountain (free), or perhaps take a boat out onto the Serpentine (charges apply)!

Please note that Hyde Park is open from 5am to midnight but Kensington Gardens closes at dusk daily. You are advised to check the Royal Parks website if in doubt (http://www.royalparks.gov.uk/).

Admission to the museums is free at time of writing, although special charges may apply to certain exhibitions.

This is a circular walking Trail on fairly level ground and well-managed paths.

    Approximate distance 3 miles.
Estimated time to complete 2 hours.
Nearest Tube Station: South Kensington (District and Circle Lines)
The Trail begins and ends close to South Kensington Station.
