YOUR CASE
In 1625 Lord Chipping’s manservant was suspected of theft and sent to the stocks, but the allegations were never proven and the loot never located. Last week as Sam Straw, the Thatcher, was replacing a roof he came upon a crumpled map and instructions (see below) tucked among the rafters, telling where the hoard was stashed. Can you help to locate the treasure, return the stolen goods to the rightful families and share in the reward?
Chipping Campden
Can you solve the clues and find out where Lord Chipping's manservant stashed the hoard of treasure he pilfered? This trail will take you from the town centre through some of the most scenic and historical areas of wonderful Chipping Campden, believed by many to be the loveliest of all the Cotswold market towns. Starting in the old town centre, the trail takes you through the squares and streets of Chipping Camden, including the Church of St James, Market Hall, Town Hall and the historic old houses. It also takes in part of both the Cotswold Way and the Gloucestershire Way.
This treasure trail is 2 miles long and should take you about 2.5 hours to complete. It is mostly paved, with 2 grassed sections along footpaths. It is mostly level with 2 gentle inclines. Walking shoes are recommended after periods of wet weather and do take a camera to record the wonderful views! Please note that the Ernest Wilson Gardens close at dusk.
There is a limited amount of parking in the centre of town at the Pay and Display by the Market Hall, but streetside parking is free, subject to availability.
