YOUR MISSION
Deranged entomologist, Dr Mike Robe, determined that Bristol is too congested, has planted a device containing millions of wood boring weevils which, when released, will attack the wooden deck of Clifton Suspension Bridge rendering it unsafe for cars to enter the city. Can you help Detective Bea Essate to solve the clues, deactivate the device and save one of the finest bridges in the world. If so you might win a prize.
Bristol Clifton
This Trail, one of 5 currently available in Bristol, explores one of the oldest and most affluent suburbs of the City, which developed with the growing wealth of traders in the 18th Century. Notable are its grand houses, magnificent, sweeping terraces, and majestic Georgian properties now occupied by corporations and trusts. It also boasts fine parks, squares and the rolling Clifton downs as well as important landmarks such as the Suspension Bridge, Clifton Cathedral, Clifton College and the hugely popular Bristol Zoo.
The Trail is a circular walk of 2.5 miles. Some of the terrain is hilly and there is one steep flight of steps to be negotiated (light pushchairs may need to be carried). The Zoo is half way round the Trail but, with a short detour, could be accommodated as part of a whole day trip.
The Trail starts and ends at the edge of Clifton Downs, by Christ Church, Clifton. Parking is very limited in this area but a bus stop is located directly outside the Church (routes 9 and 586/7 plus N8 weekends only). Be sure to take a camera as you will enjoy magnificent views across the River Severn and the City from vantage points along the way.
