  • YOUR CASE

Retired Major Larff and his faithful boxer, Tricks, are both slightly the worse for the passing of the years. Unfortunately Tricks has taken to mistaking other similar shaped objects for his bone. When a couple of valuable candlesticks go missing, suspicion falls on the poor pooch. Luckily the Major’s daughter, Avina, has been recording the dog’s favourite sites on a map. Can you solve the clues to locate the candlesticks and share in the reward?

    Amberley, Box & Minchinhampton

Unique in the Gloucestershire catalogue, this Treasure Trail allows for a longer walk of 4 stunning miles across the wide open spaces of the National Trust owned Minchinhampton Common, with opportunities to soak up the magnificent views over the Stroud Valley, and explore three delightfully charming villages along the way. Of the three, Minchinhampton itself is the largest with a fine example of a medieval market hall, an interesting church and a truly traditional market town feel. With an award winning tea shop this is the perfect place to slow down as you come to the end of the walk, before the final stretch over the common back to the start point.

The common is also used as a golf course and during the summer months locals are permitted to allow cattle to graze freely. Both the golf balls and the cows are easily negotiated with care! It can also be windy on the common, exposed as it is high above the Stroud valley so protection against wind, sun and rain is advisable, subject to checking the forecast before setting out. Strong walking shoes are advisable. If lucky you will encounter a Winstones Ices van near the start of the Trail and The Old Lodge is a great place to stop for lunch or coffee. Although there are no stiles, the rugged terrain underfoot makes this Trail unsuitable for wheelchairs. All terrain pushchairs may however manage the route (at owner's discretion). Pack a picnic or a kite to make a full day of your adventure.
