I'm not sure if the smile on Judy Black's face was entirely down to her delight at winning the annual regional Gloucestershire cash prize of £100, or just the fact that she's such a happy spirit, who believes in positive thinking and making the most of what the county has to offer. Judy and her husband, Gavin, live in the Forest of Dean, bought their winning Trail at last year's Highnam Court Spring Fair and were thrilled to learn recently that, having submitted a correct answer online, their name had been drawn from all the correct answers to Gloucestershire Treasure Trails in 2011 to scoop the £100 prize!
Judy works in Gloucester as a social worker and was taking time out of her busy schedule to pick up her winnings when she explained: "We love to go exploring. We have a camper van and take every opportunty to get out and about discovering different places. I loved the idea of Treasure Trails so bought the Gloucester City and Historic Docks Trail last year to see if we liked it. Gavin and I roped in a couple of friends and we combined doing the Treasure Trail one afternoon with a show in the evening. It was such fun that next time we saw Treasure Trails on sale at Gloucester Victorian Market (even before we knew we had won the regional prize) we bought several more! My friend who came with us has lived in Gloucester for years and said she discovered things about Gloucester she has never known or even seen before. It was great".
When asked what she would do with the windfall she said the same four friends were planning a spring break to the Bristol area and have their Treasure Trail all ready to go exploring again. "I'm going to save this money and treat us all to lunch when we're on the next Treasure Trail together". How lovely is that?
This week Treasure Trails fans across the UK are learning who their own regional winners are and one lucky person, Angela Fawson, who completed the Windsor Trail in Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire is even celebrating winning the national prize of £1000! For your chance to win it you've got to be in it - pick up a Treasure Trail online or in your local Tourist Infromation Centre or selected outlets across Gloucestershire, then simply have fun exploring and submit your answer online. A new draw will take place next January. Good luck and well done to Judy and Gavin!
