Navigating The Route
This is a circular investigation through Mistley’s leafy lanes, waterfront and historic village centre, with detectives following pavements, roads and a longer rural footpath as they track down vital evidence.
There is a fairly long stretch of uneven footpath through a tree-lined track, along with some varied terrain, so the route is not suitable for wheelchairs. However, it is generally manageable for pushchairs with care, especially sturdier buggies. Sensible footwear is recommended, and take care near roads and crossings as you patrol.
Getting There
Arrive by train and you'll be ready to go! Mistley Train Station (CO11 1HH) is your official investigation start point, where your first clue awaits.
If arriving by car, seek on-street parking near Mistley Quay (CO11 1HB) or on School Lane (CO11 1HL) or other areas near the station.
Need the Loo?
Even top detectives need a comfort break during a long case! Public toilets can be found at Mistley Village Hall (near Clue 05, typically open 9–6, excluding public holidays)
Think before you Bring Your Furry Sidekicks
Four-legged detectives are welcome on the case 🐾 - however, they are they're not allowed in the churchyard though, so one of your team will have stay outside with them. Pooches should also be kept on leads, especially near roads and in certain areas along the route.
Food & Drink Stops
Detectives won’t go hungry on this investigation! There are refreshment stops and snack shops near the start and end of the route, and it’s a great idea to bring picnic supplies to enjoy around Clue 15 - a lovely spot to pause, refuel and review your evidence (Bring proper duck food if you like feeding ducks.)
