  • YOUR MISSION

International criminal Ana Conda de Loco has become passionate about surfing. Saltburn is already in the top 10 UK surfing hot-spots, but Ana wants it to be number one. She is building a machine under the sea to generate huge waves. Saltburn's pier and seafront will be destroyed! Can you solve the clues and work out the code to deactivate the wave machine?

    Saltburn by the Sea

Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a seaside resort close to the North Yorkshire coastline. It has a long sandy beach, beautiful gardens, rugged-red sea cliffs and leafy woodlands.

Saltburn was once a hot spot for sea-smuggling. 'Black Andrew' and his friends brought liquor, tobacco and tea into the country. Using caves under the cliffs to store their contraband, they moved it under cover of darkness up to the moors beyond and away.

In 1858 a man called Henry Pease decided to make Old Saltburn into a Victorian seaside resort. While walking along the cliffs he had a vision of a heavenly city, and based his design upon it. Streets along the seafront became known as the 'Jewel Streets', with names such as Ruby Street, Diamond Street and Pearl Street.

Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a great place to visit, especially if you enjoy the outdoors. This Trail takes you through the Valley Gardens with its miniature railway and adventurous play areas. You'll also see some great sea-views, and get the chance to explore the promenade and pier. You can choose to take a trip on the funicular or cliff lift (at extra cost) to watch the pier unfold beneath you.

Saltburn is also a popular place for surfing, and the sands are often used for other sports.

There are many opportunities to get refreshments including seaside cafes, town shops, restaurants and fish and chips at the pier.

2011 is a time of celebration in Saltburn. It is 150 years since the town was founded, and there are many exciting events happening through the year.

This Trail is 2 miles in length and will take you around 2 hours to complete. It is just suitable for pushchairs, but wheelchair users will find the paths in the park steep. There is one long set of descending steps near the end of the Trail, but you can choose to use the cliff lift instead.

    WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
My husband and I took our grandsons aged 6 and 8 on the Trail. I did worry they might lose interest, but not at all - when asked how they would rate the trail both immediately said 10 out of 10! Great praise indeed. Many thanks and be assured we will be trying other Trails in the future.
