YOUR CASE
During the siege of Corfe Castle in 1646, it is said that Lady Bankes threw all her beautiful jewelery down a well when she heard that the Parliamentarians had won the siege for the castle. But did she? Rumour has it that she sent a maid, Agnes Yapp off to hide it somewhere in Corfe. Follow the directions and solve the clues to see if you can find the secret hiding place. You could even win a prize yourself!
Corfe Castle
The fantastic unmistakable silhouette of Corfe Castle dominates this Trail and towers above the picturesque village of Corfe in the heart of Purbeck. The castle, one of England's great strongholds was built in 1086 by William the Conqueror. It was not completed for nearly 200 years. The village of Corfe has lots to offer itself with family attractions including a model village, a steam railway and some really interesting shops. Along this Trail you could enjoy a cream tea with some delicious Dorset Apple Cake.
This Treasure Trail should take about 2 1/2 hours with about a 2 1/2 miles of walking. The Trail goes around the path around the base of the castle with a few slight slopes along the route but the Trail is suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs.
