Tarka Spy Trail 2

The stunning North Devon countryside, otherwise known as "Tarka Country", was brought to life by Henry Williamson in his classic novel, "Tarka, The Otter". The cycle trail follows the route of the old Tarka Line railway, and provides a safe, level, off-road cycle route for families young and old to enjoy. The trail follows the banks of the River Taw and Torridge estuaries, which are a haven for a variety of birds and other wildlife. There are clues at the start of the trail in Barnstaple and then at various points of interest along the trail, until you reach the old Bideford Station, where you can take a well-earned rest and enjoy refreshments in the converted railway carriage, before heading back to Barnstaple.

This is a cycling Spy Mission Trail along level, well-maintained tarmac cycle paths, following the route of the famous Tarka Trail. It starts at the rail station in Barnstaple and is 9 miles one way to Bideford. It is suitable for proficient cyclists of all ages. The trail can also be completed on foot.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
"After seeing the display at the North Devon Show, I immediately visited a local store to purchase a couple of your trails. The Tarka Trail was of particular interest. We did it on Sunday and found it made our usual cycle trip with our 8 and 4 year old boys more enjoyable and gave it more purpose. It was set out brilliantly and although we missed a couple, we were able to get them on the way back. I liked the way you get a chance to ride and the stops are stretched out. The instructions were very clear, without being too easy. I will certainly be buying more and am telling all my friends and colleagues. Everybody should get outdoors more, whatever the weather."
