  • YOUR MISSION

The notorious evil genius, Dr Badden-Madd, has planted a series of Bio-Bombs, somewhere in the River Taw Estuary in Tarka Country in North Devon. Local environmental groups need your help to jump on your bike and solve the clues in this trail, to reveal the code to de-activate the device before it detonates, causing devastation to the fish stocks in the river. If you complete this mission, you could win a prize!

    Tarka Spy Trail 1

The stunning North Devon countryside, otherwise known as "Tarka Country", was brought to life by Henry Williamson in his classic novel, "Tarka, The Otter". The cycle trail follows the route of the old Tarka Line railway, and provides a safe, level, off-road cycle route for families young and old to enjoy. The trail follows the banks of the River Taw and Torridge estuaries, which are a haven for a variety of birds and other wildlife. There are clues at the start of the trail in Braunton and then at various points of interest along the trail, until you reach Barnstaple, where you can take a well-earned rest and enjoy refreshments in the many cafes and restaurants alongside the Square, before heading back to Braunton.

This is a Cycling Spy Mission Trail, along level, well-maintained tarmac cycle paths, following the route of the famous Tarka Trail. It starts in Braunton and is six miles one way to Barnstaple. It is suitable for proficient cyclists of all ages. The trail can also be completed on foot.

Buy the Tarka 1 Cycling Spy Mission Trail printed booklet direct from the Devon Team on 07960 630 900 and receive a FREE guide to the Tarka Trail.
