Melbourne
Melbourne is a short distance from the National Trust property of Calke Abbey and the very picturesque village of Ticknall. There are other stunning places to visit in the immediate vicinity such as Staunton Harold Hall and reservoir and the Ferrers Centre where their are fine craft and art workshops. But by far the most exciting place in this area to visit is the medieval town of Melbourne. There is a glorious hall and gardens to see as well as a lake, a stunning church and many buildings with history of ruined castles, Bishops seats, market places, world wide travel, Prime Ministers past and even links to Australia. You need to visit it to appreciate all that Melbourne has to offer - but you wont be disappointed.
There is free parking, shops to browse and places to eat and drink a plenty in Melbourne. If you take a picnic, there is a lovely area not far from Melbourne Hall for you to sit in quiet tranquility to enjoy your feast - but watch out for the geese! The Trail is approximately 1.5 miles long and will take about an hour and a half to complete.
