YOUR CASE
In 1876 Sir Percy Pudding, nephew of Lady Treacle Tart, hid her most precious family jewels for a jape. He produced a treasure hunt map for her to follow to find the jewels and then left to fight a war. Lady Tart never found the map and never found her jewels. The map has just turned up at an auction house - can you use it to find her jewels?
Bakewell
Can you solve the clues and find out where the jewels are hidden? Bakewell is a lovely Peak District market town famous for its puddings, the annual well dressing in June and its many antique and specialist shops. It also boasts an interesting history as a Medieval trading town and a jumble of small streets that reflect that era. The Trail will take you through Bakewell’s most scenic and historic areas including Castle Street, Bath Street and Bath Gardens and the impressive All Saints Church with its collection of Saxon Crosses. There are plenty of places along the route for refreshments.
This Treasure Hunt Trail is approximately 2 miles long and should take you about 2 hours to complete. It is mostly on level, paved surfaces, except for in the vicinity of the church and is suitable for pushchairs. Wheelchair users will find the descent down the steps in church alley challenging, but can continue down church alley and turn left at the end as an alternative.
Bakewell can get very busy with tourists, but market days on Monday and Saturday are especially busy which can make parking difficult.
