  • YOUR CASE

For many years tales have been told around the fires of Lakeland homes about a Beatrix Potter story that was never published, or at least not by a fancy publisher in London. Allegedly 30 copies of The Coniston Cupcake Maker were published locally as a gift for local schoolchildren from Miss Potter. Copies of this are as rare as hen’s teeth. Recently a map has been found showing where the original printing plates are hidden. Can you find them first and share the tale of the cupcake maker with the world?

    CONISTON

Coniston village sits at the head of Coniston Water, the Lake District's third largest lake. This village has every thing you would expect from a village that makes its living from welcoming visitors. Coniston is a place where you can go boating, fish, pony trek, ramble, enjoy a bit of culture go for a swim in the lake and do a Treasure Trail.
Behind the village in the west are the soaring fells above Coppermine’s Valley and more fells beyond. Up here you will find the legendary Old Man Of Coniston. Head west from the village into these fells and it’s 14 miles before the next populated area.

This Trail is our first all off-road Trail, covering a distance of 2 ½ miles the majority of which are all on footpaths. The Trail uses part of the Cumbria Way through Beatrix Potter farming country, passing Low Yewdale Farm. There is one climb although this is not major and is within the first half a mile; it can be a bit slippery here when wet. The Trail is an easy family walk, with clearly marked footpath signs. Stout footwear and waterproofs are recommended in inclement weather.

Unfortunately the terrain makes this Trail unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
