YOUR CASE
Anticipation turned to tragedy this week in Ambleside, hours before renowned Himalayan explorer Hugh Laithes was due at a press conference to announce the discovery of a Yeti colony in deepest Bhutan. His body was found at his ransacked home. Police are asking for public assistance with the investigation. Who wanted to keep the Yeti lair secret? Can you help?
AMBLESIDE
Situated at the head of Lake Windermere, Ambleside is only 20 miles from the M6 at Junction 36 and was once the site of a Roman fort, Galva. Almost every visitor to the Lake District will pass through the town at one point on their journey, as all roads seem to lead here. The town is at the foot of the Kirkstone Pass and the gateway to the Langdale Valley. This walking Trail starts at the Northern end of town, taking in the curious Bridge House, delightful Peggy Hill and the alleys and yards of the town centre. You will also visit Rothay Park, Miller Bridge and the classic Lakeland church of St Mary’s Church and its "look at me steeple." There are plenty of places to eat and drink, along with a fascinating selection of shops, one of which is said to be the largest outdoor shop in the country.
The Trail starts and ends at the Rydal Road car park in the north of the town on the A591. If the car park is busy continue past the Police Station, where on the left there is another car park. These are pay and display car parks.
Unfortunately the Trail is not suitable for wheel chairs as at a couple of points it is quite steep.
