  • YOUR CASE

During Arthurian times the hermit Ogrin became involved in the doomed love affair between Tristan and Iseult. He lived in his refuge at Roche Rock. Ogrin was entrusted by Tristan to hide his most valuable possessions before he escaped his pursuers with his dramatic leap from Chapel Point near Mevagissey. Your task is to discover the location of this secret horde.

    St Dennis and Roche

The villages of Roche and St. Dennis are both situated close to the northern edge of a large intrusion of granite that underlies the high ground between the two villages and St. Austell.

The extraction of china clay dominates the entire area, not only in the creation of a unique landscape, but also in creating long term employment for the local population for more than two centuries. St Dennis in particular has all of the characteristics of a traditional mining community. The profusion of non-conformist chapels and the tradition of brass band music is strong in the area.

Between the two villages is a flat marshy area known as Goss Moor which is the source of the River Fal and supports a unique ecosystem with many rare species. The trail gives you a glimpse of the character of this distinctive area. The jewel in it's crown is Roche Rock, where the trail finishes.

The Trail will take approximately 3 hours. There is 2 miles walking and 7 miles driving or cycling.

The Trails is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
