YOUR CASE
Following the discovery of an 18th Century pirate ship off Nare Point, the body of Wanda, the infamous pirate widow, was found in the heart of the woodlands nearby. In her hand was a freshly torn piece of a treasure map. However the crucial part showing where the booty is buried is missing. Solve the clues to find out where the treasure is located.
Helford
The Helford river area where luxuriant green woods meet the sea has long been recognised for its scenery and biological importance. Its shoreline totals 47km and is renowned for its peaceful atmosphere. St Keverne is the Helford area's largest village. It is unusual for Cornwall in that it is clustered around a central square. With its octagonal spire the 15th Century church was a prominent day mark for mariners warning them of the treacherous Manacles reef a mile off shore. Manaccan sits on a hill at the head of Gillan Creek. It is said that its remote location allowed smugglers to continue their work long after it was eradicated elsewhere. Helford is one of the most unspoilt rivers in Cornwall, it has deep sheltered valleys, ancient oak forests and hidden creeks. You can still experience pedestrian ferry links on the North and South banks of the river. There are also many small quays adding to the picturesque scenery of this location.
This Treasure Hunt driving Trail of 9 miles, experiencing traditional Cornish lanes and 'hedgerows' takes you to the three villages of St Keverne, Manaccan, and Helford. Walking approximately 2 miles discovering picturesque Cornish gems, it is worth noting that as an alternative you may wish to experience the whole Trail on foot taking advantage of the many existing footpaths and designated walks.
