  • YOUR CASE

    Local actor Leonard Hamm had been given the role of Cromwell in the re-staging of civil war events. But this time it's Cromwell who meets a sticky end as Mr Hamm is found murdered. Was it a fellow actor, jealous at the casting? Or a historian fed up with his acting? Whoever it was they are trying to get away - follow their escape route, uncover the clues and find out who brought Hamm's performance to an end, and how!

    St Ives - pathway to the past

    Welcome to St Ives!
    St Ives is one of the most beautiful historic market towns in Cambridgeshire. It is situated on the banks of the river Great Ouse, 6 miles east of Huntington.
    Come and enjoy a lovely walk, soak up the history and admire the wonderful views over the river Ouse! St Ives offers many places to eat so why not stay for a bit longer and relax by the river after the walk?
    St Ives has a long and captivating history that is well evident through a walk along the streets of the town. There are many historical buildings and landmarks here, including the remains of the 1017 Priory, the Bridge and Chapel of St Leger. The Chapel was built in 1426 and is one of the only four bridge chapels remaining in the country.
    There are many beautiful walks by the river, the quayside and parks and even a small nature reserve based on a river island close to the town centre. For serious walkers, there is a well signposted route to join the Ouse Valley Way, the 150-mile footpath that leads to King’s Lynn.
    In medieval times St Ives hosted some of the biggest public markets and fairs in England. The weekly Monday market has taken place since 14th century. There is St Ives Carnival and Music Festival in summer and a Dickensian Fair that usually takes place in early December.

    This is a walking trail in the Murder Mystery format. It is approximately 2 miles long and you should allow around 2 hours to complete it. The trail is set over good, level terrain throughout and is suitable for pushchairs. Some clues might not be fully accessible to wheelchair users. There are numerous pay and display car parks throughout the town and the nearest to the trail starting point is Cattle Market Car Park (PE27 5PL).

    St Ives can be reached:
    from A14 (South) leave at Junction 26 and follow A1096;
    from A14 (North) leave at Junction 23 and follow A141/ A1123;
    from Huntington follow A1123;
    by bus: a new guided bus service is now in operation.
