  • YOUR MISSION

Special agents have uncovered a plot by a notoriuos Cambridge geneius troublemaker Barry Baitesbite to sabotage the highly acclaimed River Cam Festival. He has planted a device on one of the river locks that, if activated, would destroy the lock and prevent the Festival from going ahead. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to follow the trail of clues to find the deactivation code.

River Cam - the Middle River

This cycling Trail follows the course of the River Cam within the boundaries of Cambridge. It is one of the series of River Cam Trails that explores the upper, lower and middle parts of the river and the surrounding areas. The stretch north (downstream) of Jesus Lock is usually referred to as the lower river; the stretch from Jesus Lock to the Mill Pond is known as the middle river and the section above the Mill Pond is sometimes called the upper river.

Starting at Newnham Pond, this cycling Trail follows the course of the river to Mill Pond and The Backs. It then cuts across the historical city centre (with some challenging clues to solve on the way!) to Jesus Green Lock and Bridge. From there it follows one of the most popular and picturesque cycle routes of Cambridge finishing at Fort St George Bridge.

This Trail will take you to many famous landmarks on route, including the Mill Pond, The Backs, Trinity Street and Trinity College, All Saints Garden, St John's College, Jesus Green Bridge and Lock, and Victoria Bridge.

This is a cycling Spy Themed Trail. It is approximately 2 miles long and you should allow around 1.5 hours to complete it. Please note that this Trail is not circular (the distance of the round trip will be 4 miles and you should allow extra time to complete it).

This Trail follows a well-maintained cycle route along the River Cam. The terrain is mostly flat and there are no hills to negotiate.
