Here is your chance to change the history of the world! But...sshhh...don't tell anyone! Have you heard about the strongbox that builders found at Cromwell House in Huntingdon? Rumours have it that it holds Cromwell's best kept secret that he took with him to the grave - the truth about King Charles that no living person knows! Here is your mission if you choose to accept it: solve the clues to find the secret code, unlock the strongbox...and change history!

In the steps of Cromwell - Part 1

This historic driving and walking Trail is dedicated to Oliver Cromwell and his life in Huntingdonshire from 1599 to 1638.
Elected as one of the Top 10 Britons of all time in 2002 BBC poll, Oliver Cromwell is one of the most controversial figures in the British history - considered a dictator by some and a hero by others. The BBC History channel described Cromwell as an "English soldier and statesman who helped make England a republic and then ruled as lord protector from 1653 to 1658".
Undoubtedly, Cromwell is one of the most famous residents of Huntingdon. This Trail will take you on a journey of exploration of the local history connected to his name.
This driving Trail starts at Huntingdon, the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell. In Huntingdon, it will take you to the house where Oliver was born, to the church where he was baptised, to the school where he studied and to the pub where, according to a local belief, he regularly met with his supporters. The Trail then follows the steps of the Cromwells to St Ives where the family moved from Huntingdon.

This driving Trail follows the steps of the Cromwell family from Huntingdon to St Ives. The walking sections of the Trail follow a well-maintained pedestrian route around the central parts of Huntingdon and St Ives.
The terrain is mostly flat, there are no hills to negotiate and the path is tarmaced throughout the Trail. At Huntingdon, park at St. Germain Street (Minor) long stay pay and display car park (PE29 3LQ), situated on the inner ring road (Brookside, B1514).
