  • YOUR CASE

Soon after the discovery of the historic Agnus Dei Pennies, rumours spread that metal detecting enthusiast Alvin Buzz has unearthed the largest haul of Roman coins ever found in Cambridge. Determined to keep the coins, he hid them in a different place. He’s gone to ground and although his map was found, nobody has had any luck with finding the coins. Solve the clues to find them and win a cash prize if you are lucky!

    Old Cambridge Part 1

Whilst Cambridge is probably best known for its historic university, and the numerous colleges that are part of it, the city itself is far older (the university did not arrive in the city until early in the 13th Century).
This Trail is one of the series of Cambridge Trails that explores different parts of this famous and beautiful city in more detail. Starting at the Guildhall on Market Hill, this circular Trail takes you on a journey to discover many hidden treasures and explore famous landmarks of the historic centre of Cambridge. Take this Trail to find out about many famous people and Nobel Prize winners who graduated from Cambridge University, to visit the place where the town of Durolipons (70 AD) used to stand and what was discovered in the archaeological excavation in 2000. Learn about the meaning of some famous Latin inscriptions and practice your Roman numerals on the way!

This is a walking Treasure Hunt Trail. It is approximately 1.7 miles long and you should allow around 2 hours to complete it. This Trail follows a well-maintained pedestrian and cycle route around central part of Cambridge. The terrain is mostly flat, with one hill at the end of the Trail (Castle Hill) where wheelchair users might need some assistance. The path is tarmaced throughout the Trail. The Trail is reasonably accessible for pushchairs.

Take special care around Trinity Street as the pavements might be quite narrow. When searching for clues (some clues might require you to look up) please be aware of other road users, including cyclists. Never compromise your safety when searching for clues - use the text helpline if in doubt.
