YOUR CASE
You are back in 1875. Bob Bristle, brush maker, helped his friend, beer brewer Ben Barleyfield, to load barrels onto the back of a delivery cart. When they had finished Bob took off his new boots, which were becoming uncomfortable as they were not yet broken in. Sadly he went home without them and then forgot exactly where he had left them. He needs your help to find them again, before his wife realises they are missing!
Chesham
Chesham is the longest established Walkers Are Welcome town in the Chilterns, achieving this status in 2010. Chesham nestles amongst beautiful valleys, has unique natural features such as the chalk stream River Chess and is adjacent to the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is also at the end of the Metropolitan Line.
Chesham is a market town on the River Chess. Once there were watercress beds along the Chess. The town was well known for the "4 Bs" - boots, brushes, beer and Baptists. These three industries have all gone as, unfortunately, so have some of the older parts of the town. Luckily, enough survive to get a flavour of what Chesham used to be like.
This Trail takes you for a short walk by the Chess, through the centre of town and into the park, then on to the oldest area of Chesham before returning to the car park from where the walk starts. On the way you will pass a number of the different places of worship that continue to exist in the town.
Suitable for pushchairs. This Trail involves about 2 miles walking and should take about 2 hours to complete.
The Chesham Museum stocks this Trail.
