West Wales

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Geoff Lane as the new manager for Treasure Trails West Wales.  Geoff loves the outdoors and has a great sense of humour.  He was born in Frome, Somerset and joined the Royal Air Force straight from school and served a 2-year apprenticeship in ground electronics finally leaving training in Oct 73.

His first posting was to RAF Greatworth, Oxfordshire where he cut his teeth as a Junior Technician.  Thereafter followed postings - and repeat postings to the Near East Air Force Cyprus, London, Bedfordshire, Germany and Buckinghamshire.  He is currently serving (until Autumn 2009) at RAF Odiham in Hampshire – the home of the Chinook.  A memorable moment during his early years was his selection as a Cpl to fly to Norfolk (Virgina USA) to fix a fault that had beaten the American technicians.

Geoff loves the outdoors and has spent many hours walking the Coastal paths of West Wales and Devon/Cornwall.  Further holidays have included many trips to the Lake District and the Bavarian Alps during his Germany posting.  For over 25 years he raced as a competitive windsurfer until Offshore sailing finally took over the buzz from windsurfing and Geoff is now a qualified RYA Day Skipper.  For fitness closer and easier to home, he loves cross country cycling and has an indoor rower, treadmill and cross trainer in the ‘home’ gym.   He discovered long ago that he is not a sprinter, but has staying power and has completed a marathon on the indoor rower and is currently in training for this year’s London to Brighton bike ride.  Both of these events in aid of health charities – The Blood Pressure Association and The British Heart Foundation.

Geoff is married to Sandra. Together, they have no children, love dogs, have two cats, two chickens, lots of fish and 7 computers!  We are very pleased to have him on board and extremely confident that he is going to write some brilliant Trails for his area.  Due to the long lead in time until he leaves the service, Geoff plans to write the Trails during the remainder of 2008 and launch in 2009.
